Pachter: Nintendo is a bad company with a poor CEO

It looks like Pachter is at it once again. In the past week, video game analyst Michael Pachter has made negative comments about Nintendo over and over again. This isn't anything new though. Pachter is known for his negative view on Nintendo and has predicted Nintendo's doom many times and failed in the process. On March 11, it was reported that Pachter is finally going even further to get the word out about his hatred for Nintendo as a company. Pachter stated that Nintendo is a "bad company" with a "poor CEO." Is Pachter making any sense here?

As reported earlier, Pachter held a presentation at the SXSW expo on March 9. At the presentation, he worked hard to make his negative comments about Nintendo come true. He predicted that the Wii U would sell less than 50 million units in it's lifetime and essentially made it seem like it isn't an 8th generation console. When asked if he thought if Nintendo would leave the hardware business, Pachter stated the following:

"I think Nintendo is no longer able to compete the way they did in the past and sell their consoles at a big profit." said Pachter. "I think that the Wii, when it first launched they were probably making about $100 of profit per unit. I think the DS when it first launched was probably generating about $50 of profit per unit. The 3DS I think is barely making a profit. The Wii U I think is barely making a profit - I'm talking 5 or 10 bucks per unit."

This is an interesting statement for Pachter to make sense Sony's PS3 didn't make a profit for it's first 4 years. Pachter isn't speaking for every company when it comes to making a profit off of hardware or software sales here, but as a gaming analyst, he should introduce gamers to the bigger picture which shows what's currently going on with Sony and Microsoft.

Pachter shouldn't be a game analyst, he is just an individual who makes statements which are mostly negative. In 2011, Pachter predicted that the PlayStation Vita would "thrash" the Nintendo 3DS. It's now 2013 and the 3DS is dominating in sales while the Vita isn't doing too well. Now, Pachter is saying that the Vita doesn't have much of a future. This alone makes it clear that Pachter's statements aren't facts at all. Most of the things that come out of Pachter's mouth are thoughts. He's making these same statements about the Wii U and the PS4 and as an analyst, he should start learning about marketing trends.

Yes, Pachter believes Satoru Iwata is a "poor CEO" but his only explanation is that he isn't making the company any money. What about Sony's CEO? Should every CEO of every company step down if their company loses a little bit of money? Absolutely not. In the end, Pachter had one more comment for Nintendo fans. "If you don't like that answer, Nintendo fans, deal with it" said Pachter. Nintendo's Wii U system is expected to sell more units once more games are released and a possible price-cut is put into place.
