Smash Bros. fans and retro game lovers unite! The yellow, ghost-eating hero with a never-ending appetite has been confirmed as a playable character in the new Smash Bros. game for the Wii U and 3DS.
A special video announcing his arrival to Smash Bros. was shown at E3 2014 during a developer roundtable that the director of the game, Masahiro Sakurai was present at.
In the video a 3D model of Pac-Man can be seen performing various attacks including ones where he transforms into his original flat arcade version to chow down on enemies. It also seems he will be able to call in some help from some other Namco arcade game sprites such as the Galaga ship and aliens, as well as Inky, Blinky, Pinky and Clyde, the ghosts from his original arcade game.
The announcement of Pac-Man follows the introduction of the Mii (in three different forms) and Palutena, the Goddess of Light from the Kid Icarus series as playable characters.
Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS now has a release date of October 3rd 2014, later than its originally expected Summer 2014 release date, while Super Smash Bros. for Wii U is still slated for a Holiday 2014 release.
