Pac-12 commissioner does not want to see expansion into super conferences

With all the talk in the football world about Texas A&M leaving for the SEC and Oklahoma flirting with the Pac-12, the commissioner of the Pac-12 finally came out and quelled the talk for now. On Friday, Sept. 9, commissioner Larry Scott said the Pac-12 is not ready to expand yet.

"We're not actively working on anything right now; we're just watching what's happening like everybody else," Scott said. "In fact, our hope is that there is no expansion and that all conferences that are at 12 stay at 12."

With all the talk surrounding football expansion and the fear that Oklahoma or Texas would come and in take over the Pac-12, the conference also has a strong basketball program and the influx of talented teams from Texas and Oklahoma State could help boost the prestige of the west coast conference. However Scott believes that the expansion is not good for the NCAA.

Basketball conferences have always had larger memberships with teams like Notre Dame, an independent in football, having conference affiliations in basketball and smaller schools with no major football programs still being a force in college basketball. However, when realignment occurs it is all about football.

"It's unfortunate; I don't think anyone likes to see it," Scott said. "I don't think it's good for college football. It's kind of dirty laundry to be aired."
