Spring Lake Regional Park in Santa Rosa, California, is the site of the next Grand Prix cross country race
The Empire Runners Club of Santa Rosa, California, are hosts to the second event in the 2009 PA USATF Cross Country Grand Prix on August 29th. The races begin with the women at 9:00am, followed by the master's men at 9:45 and the open men at 10:30.
All three races are 3.43 miles in length and consists of a two lap course around Spring Lake at the regional park in Santa Rosa. The course begins and ends on grass, but is primarily run on asphalt and gravel trails. The course is moderately hilly, with a pair of very steep downhill segments.
The 2008 edition of the event was won by Michelle Gallagher in the women's race, Gary Blanco in the master's men, and Thomas Kloos in the open men. A total of 175 runners competed in the three races.
The Grand Prix series has a total of 9 races, of which the best 6 scores apply to the Grand Prix standings. For those runners focusing on a good position in the standings, this is a good race to attend. It represents quite a distance to travel for the majority of PA runners, thus fewer runners participate and the chances for a higher placement are increased.
