The Pennsylvania Homeschool Law requires homeschooled students to take standardized tests in grades three, five and eight. Many families find it beneficial to have their children take these tests every year. PA Homeschoolers seeks to support families and will be offering the Terra Nova CAT Survey on Oct 24 at Jordan UCC off of Route 309.
“The test we give meets the testing requirement of the PA homeschool law, and we strive to create a positive and professional testing environment where students can do their best.” says Susan Richman of PA Homeschoolers. Students in the fall take the level test that is normally given at the end of the previous grade in the spring. The fall test for third graders is the same as the level that is given to second graders in the spring. Tests are scored using Fall Testing norms. For more ideas on test preparation, PA Homeschoolers have archived articles on their website .
Testing begins promptly at 9:30 a.m., and will finish up the reading, math, and language arts sections by noon. Families can opt to have their children stay on for no extra charge after lunch to take the science and social studies sections which will be administered from 12:45 to 1:30pm.
Many families bring sack lunches and enjoy visiting with each other between the two test sections.
Students in grades 5 and above are allowed to use calculators on the math word problem section. No questions require calculator use.
Families can pre-register until October 15 in the online store . Cost is $30 per child plus $3.95 handling fee per order. Walk-ins are welcome at the door by 9ams. Cost at the door is just $35 per child.
