Two haunted attractions in eastern Pennsylvania are not simply satisfied with you just walking through and being scared. No, they’ve found ways to increase the scare factor.
Shocktoberfest – Sinking Spring
Shocktoberfest is offering two new ways to scare the pants off of you, one of them in the literal sense.
Naked and Scared:
What scares people more than axe-wielding maniacs, zombies or chainsaws? Being naked in public. Shocktoberfest has added “The Naked and Scared Challenge,” inspired by the show “Naked and Afraid” on the Discovery Channel. The attraction is described like this:
“Think you’re brave? Experience The Unknown Haunted House with ZERO protection! We dare you to take the Naked and Scared Challenge only at Shocktoberfest!”
…Shocktoberfest has created The Naked and Scared Challenge to test your fears and phobias on a whole new level. For the first time ever you can now experience the Unknown Haunted House totally naked!"
If you dare to take the challenge, you have the option of going through “Nude or Prude,” that is, either totally naked or with your underwear on. It takes place at the end of the night after all other customers have gone through and you must be 18 or older. Not available on Sundays!
Prison of the Dead Escape:
An interactive attraction, you can choose to be a visitor or a zombie. If you’re a visitor, you’re given a flag football belt with three flags representing your brain, heart and entrails. The goal is to finish with one or more of your “organs.” If you choose to be a zombie, you will be turned into a zombie, taken to the prison and try to infect the visitors with your zombie virus (by taking their flags).
Tickets are limited for both, online ticket purchases recommended.
Terror Behind the Walls – Eastern State Penitentiary, Philadelphia
You know how you calm yourself at a haunted attraction by thinking “it’s okay, the actors can’t touch me?” Well now they can at Terror Behind the Walls at Eastern State Penitentiary. For the first time ever, guests can choose whether they want to just watch the action, or be part of it. If you choose to be an active participant, be prepared to be touched, grabbed, pulled away from your group, sent into hidden passageways, or even incorporated into the show.
Those who choose to participate are given a neon necklace and marked with blood on their cheek which alerts the actors that they are an “active” participant. If they become too terrified, they can always take the necklace off.
