How many times have you been driving along and seen a roadside vendor set up offering various products? You know the ones selling produce, fruit, boiled peanuts, seafood and other items of that nature. Now as you drive past you wonder is it worth while stopping? After all there are no fancy signs, beautiful entrance ways or giant parking lots. No, just the seller with a table and maybe a tent to protect you and their products from the hot Florida Sun and occasional rains. It's a very basic affair so why stop and check it out? Upon visiting many of our roadside vendors I have found that these are honest hard working individuals who take pride in their products, customers and daily efforts. They are licensed and monitored by the county just like any other business. So these are all good things for their clientele.
One such roadside vendor is Joe's Peanuts located on Hwy. 44 close to the Lisbon Bridge. That's about half way between Eustis and Leesburg in Lake County. Joe is a retired military man and after sometime he decided sitting at home just wasn't for him. So he started out with the necessary equipment and began boiling peanuts about seven years ago and branched into a produce line as well. He takes great pride serving the folks that venture into his roadside stand. He stands behind his products 100%.

Joe with his assistant Rooster, as he is best known, take great strides to make sure that you, the customer are receiving the freshest produce at a great price. He also donates the produce that doesn't sell to his local church to help benefit others in need. Joe's boiled peanuts are also a work he his proud of too. You can purchase regular hot boiled or his secret Cajun recipe of spicy peanuts. Now if you don't mind a little heat then give them a try. They are served up with small potatoes, olives, jalapeno peppers and onions, all boilded to perfection. That's a meal in it's self.

So the next time your out and about and you see a little roadside stand. Maybe, just maybe you can take a few minutes to stop and check them out. You may just find yourself stopping a lot more then you used to.
Just take a look at these beautiful vegetables.
