'Oz the Great and Powerful' set for a sequel that Sam Raimi may not be directing

"Oz the Great and Powerful" came out on top of the box office weekend and Disney might already have a sequel in the works that Sam Raimi hasn't committed to yet for different reasons.

Bleeding Cool caught up with Raimi, who had this to say about an "Oz" sequel:

“I haven’t planned on directing the sequel. I did leave some loose ends for another director if they want to make the picture… I was attracted to [the 'Oz the Great and Powerful' story] but I don’t think the second one would have the thing I would need to get me interested.”

Whether or not Raimi comes back remains to be seen, but Disney still has co-screenwriter Mitchell Kapnor set to write the sequel. Kapnor has permission to use anything from Frank L. Baum's book so long as it doesn't infringe on any of MGM's copyrights (they own the rights to the famous ruby slippers).

Sam Raimi or not, Mila Kunis has confirmed that the cast is definitely "signed on for sequels."
