Oz the Great and Powerful- good family movie (Photos)

Oz the Great and Powerful honors the original Wizard of Oz movie and adds redemptive character development for the "wizard" to make it a good family movie with moral value. Oz learns that he becomes great and powerful, when he serves others with goodness. James Franco and Michelle Williams provide delightful performances, as do the myriad of special characters. The special effects with these characters are especially entertaining. It is the special little people of Oz who assist the wizard and help him find his greatness in goodness.

The the original Wizard of Oz with Judy Garland was not an immediate hit, but it became a national favorite after reintroduction with telecasts. This new prequel may reintroduce the original Wizard of Oz to young audiences.

Unlike the opening of the original Wizard of Oz, Oz the Great and Powerful has been a hit on its opening weekend. According to studio estimates, "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" debuted in first place and earned $80.3 million at the weekend box office in the U.S. and Canada and $69.9 million overseas.
