The Oxford Hotel, the oldest hotel in Denver, is known for its paranormal activity. Supposedly haunted since a murder suicide tragedy in room 320 in 1898, the historic hotel is thrillingly chilling during the Halloween season.
From tales of bathroom stalls locking themselves from the inside, sinks that would turn on and off during the night, and a type writer that would run itself so often in the offices it had to be moved to the attic, the Oxford has a history of the paranormal. Single, male guests staying in the infamous room 320 will feel their arms being pulled and covers ripped from the bed from the supposed spirit of Florence Richardson, a young lover to the married man she shot and killed before turning the gun on herself in 1898. A hotspot for paranormal investigators and enthusiasts, the eerie headboard which reads “Come Gentle Dreams; the hours of sleep beguile” is enough to give anyone chills in the room with a sorted history.
The Oxford is offering a Paranormal Theater Package for the Halloween season so you can encounter your own spirits and extraordinary experiences yourself. Starting at $250, the package includes overnight accommodation for two in a luxurious guest room (requests for 320 will go quick!), two tickets to Erick Machamer’s “Paranormal Theater-A Magic Show,” two signature Spirit-inis in the Cruise Room, and complimentary valet parking.
While enjoying your Spirit-ini, keep an eye out for a postman who is “needing to get to the children.” Reportedly the elderly postman made several appearances in Denver at several local bars, including the Cruise Room at The Oxford Hotel, ordering a beer and muttering about “getting to the children” several years ago. Turns out, the frozen postman was found in Central City with Christmas gifts which we was attempting to deliver; his beers always remained full when picked up by bartenders, although he had been seen drinking them throughout the night.
The extraordinary Paranormal Theater show is not to be missed for those enchanted with the supernatural. Machamer has been bewitching audiences with a unique hybrid of theatre and magic for 15 years. His show at the Oxford will include stories of Denver’s well-documented paranormal events, psychic demonstrations, and interactive comedy and magic. Coupling with ghost stories, turn-of-the century séance recreations, and the opportunity to let your imagination run wild, The Oxford Hotel is a definite must for this Halloween.
