Oxbow now has a high-fiber supplement for exotics which offers ingredients to support joint health in small pets. These all-natural vegetarian supplements contain ingredients to maintain joint health in pets of any age as well as support the mobility of older pets
Natural Science Joint Support contains the active ingredients of glucosamine (aids in the prevention of cartilage degeneration) and turmeric, ginger root and Yucca schidigera extract (these have anti-inflammatory properties). The tablets are timothy-hay based (long-strand fiber which aids in normal digestion) and contain no artificial colors, ingredients or preservatives. The supplement’s inactive ingredients are timothy grass, barley flour, oat groat flour, cane molasses, flax seed meal, yeast culture (dehydrated), xanthan gum, algae (fat product), mixed tocopherols and rosemary extract. The supplements are apparently quite delicious (to small pets, anyway) as all of the rabbits in my house think these are treats (an added bonus, as too many of the commercial rabbit treats are not a source of good nutrition).
The tablets may be offered whole (depending upon size of pet), broken apart, or even soaked in water until soft, at which point the water is drained off and the tablet may be mashed and sprinkled over the pet’s usual food.
The tablets are designed as a supplement for the diet of small herbivores such as guinea pigs, chinchillas, rabbits, degus and other rats, hamsters, gerbils and even iguanas and prairie dogs! The tablets are NOT recommended for mice, however. For all other species, consult Oxbow or your veterinarian. When adding supplements to your pet's diet, always consult your veterinarian; the Natural Science Joint Support supplements are not intended for growing, pregnant, or lactating animals.
