Savannah cats are a mix between domestic cat and serval (African wild cat). They are the largest breed of domesticated cats. The new breed began in the 80s by a man named Judee Frank. The cats are the size of a small dog and most say Savannahs act more like a dog than a cat. They can be walked on a leash or trained to do tricks like sit or play fetch. They also like to ride in cars and play in water. They can weigh 20 pounds or more with a height of 2 feet tall and 40 inches long.
They can jump 12 feet in the air, run up to 45 miles per hour, are very active and outgoing, get along with children and dogs, and can open doors and cabinets. They are very intelligent. The only way to buy a Savannah would be to find a breeder because these cats cannot be bought in a regular pet store. The average cost is $3000- $5000. A good website to find breeders in or near Chicago would be Savannah cat or eBay classifieds. If you love cheetahs and/or big cats, then the cousin of the cheetah (Savannah) is the closest you can get to one.
