On Monday evening, Michelle Hogan, 44, of Hudson, N.H. turned herself over to authorities and was charged with animal cruelty for abandoning her two-year-old Great Dane outside of Dunk N'Dogs, a local dog groomer.
According to the Union Leader.com, the sweet dog named Sammie was tied outside of the grooming store on Lowell Road in Hudson on Aug.27. Fortunately, the owner of the shop has been helping, along with Animal Control, and a local pet store. Sammie has serious medical problems.
The 100-pound dog with the excellent disposition has been under the care of a veterinarian, and will be needing surgery in the near future for a large abdominal tumor among other medical needs.
On the Facebook page for America's Pets Store in Hudson, owner Kristi Griego, who has graciously volunteered to help with Sammie's recovery, donated $500 toward the dog's treatments. Animal lovers from all over soon began to donate funds for Sammie's recovery:
"We wanted to let all of our generous customers know that we will be accepting any and all donations to help this baby girl with her extensive medical bills. There are many!! She deserves a chance, no dog should ever be abandoned like she was. So lets rally together and raise funds for her!! We will start with a $500.00 donation!! WHO IS WITH US??? You can call anytime during our working hours to make make a donation."
Over the Labor Day weekend, almost $1,400 had been contributed and will be paid directly to the vet.
Hogan was also charged with failure to license or vaccinate her dog.
Whatever reason Hogan had for walking away from her dog who depended on her for eating and care, animal abandonment is illegal. Hogan has been released on a $2,000 bond.
If you would like to help Sammie get well, donations can be sent to America's Pets Store at 142 Lowell Road in Hudson, N.H., or you can call (603)-881-9247.
