Update 1/17/14 2:30 p.m. (PST): Per CARE, a foster home has been found for Charlie. He is now available for adoption.

A handsome, yellow Labrador retriever named "Charlie," is behind bars and in danger of losing his life even though he has done nothing wrong - in fact, he wound up in this predicament after his owner was sent to prison.

On Friday, Cressie Animal Refuge and Enrichment (CARE) posted the following about Charlie, who is currently at the City of San Antonio, Texas, shelter:

Charlie (URGENT, at City of San Antonio Shelter, needs a foster or adopter!)

My Dad’s relatives don’t want the responsibility of me while my Dad is gone, so they surrendered me to the City of San Antonio shelter. I think you all know by now that the owner surrendered dogs don’t get the 72 hour stray hold, because of course, no one would come looking for us.

Charlie is blissfully unaware of the danger that he is in - those individuals who observed him described the dog as "calm and very sweet."

Charlie needs an adopter or foster home - anyone who can help is asked to call CARE at 210-858-8422 or email pbrink@caretx.org - click here for Charlie's Facebook thread.
