Owner closing controversial Troy biergarten

The controversial Troy establishment Broadway Brew Biergarten will close by January 30.

Owner Kareem Jandali today announced he is throwing in the towel for the two-year-old nightspot that already had been closed once -- by the City of Troy for being a public nuisance.

"Until we close on the 30th we will be running food specials to clear out our five freezers' worth of food," Jandali said, "so, stop in and say your last goodbyes."

No word on whether the latest round of complaints from neighboring businesses played any part in the decision. A recent shooting incident near the Broadway establishment prompted a resurgence in complaints about activities connected with the establishment, but Jandali, who also operates a real estate and insurance firm, said surveillance tapes show the suspect in that case had never been inside his premises.

The city had ordered a two-month closing last spring of what then was called Broadway Brew. Jandali converted it to a "biergarten" theme when he reopened it. It is located at 254 Broadway.
