An owl is terrorizing neighborhood joggers, swooping down at them as they go out for a daily run. That’s not all this hoot owl is doing, he has made off with a man’s hat, iPod and headphones. This hoot owl swooped down and grabbed the items right off the jogger’s head, according to “Fox and Friends Weekend” Sunday morning Oct. 13.
Fox News Memphis reports that people in this East Memphis neighborhood are on the lookout for this owl when they are outside. Joe Parks, who runs through the Highpoint neighborhood daily, said he thought a branch hit him in the head the other day, but when he looked behind him, he saw it was a bird and it was coming at him at eye level.
Parks said the bird was coming right at him so he “hit the deck.” The owl landed in the tree and while Parks was still on the ground, he looked up and could see that the bird was an owl. He came across the owl a few days later and said the creature appears to have absolutely no fear of humans.
Parks was able to snap a few pictures of the owl, which stands about two-feet tall and has a wing span of at least five feet. That is one big owl! Park isn’t the only one that the owl has swooped down upon, the creature made off with a man’s hat with his iPod and headphones attached.
Another resident of the Highpoint neighborhood saw the oil swoop down grab his hat with the electronics attached then flew a little further ahead of him and perched on a roof. The man known only as Bean, said the owl tore the hat from his head, but not without giving his head a “thump” first.
There are no missing pet reports as of yet, but people are keeping an eye out for the owl. Bean’s wife found his hat a few streets over when she went out jogging later that day, but the iPod was nowhere in sight.
