Article by Joe Sioufi - OVO the fabulous Cirque du soleil show is in Houston now. I had been invited by the lovely team of Cirque du soleil to assist this spectacular show, where you can see super size crickets and ants, fleas and scarabs, in a light-heated, family-friendly, less plot more clown oriented show sprinkled with Brazilian flavor. Directed by Deborah Colker, the first female director at Cirque du Soleil, OVO is a headlong rush into a colorful ecosystem teeming with life, where insects work, eat, crawl, flutter, play, fight and look for love in a non-stop riot of energy and gymnastic artistic movements.
Flexible acrobatic dancers & funny personalities. The Montreal based troupe are willing to give the world an international sensation and to make it worth each $ you spent. No matter where you're sitting under the custom built The Grand Chapiteau down to the last row you will get an intimate view of the show.
My love affair with Cirque du Soleil started way back when I was a child and kept growing more with time especially when I got hired by Cirque du Soleil team to do 2 shows at the Black & Blue event in 2004. I got to experience not just to watch it, but to live the backstage preparations. Not to forget to mention all the repetitions & preparations we, as dancers had to go through to put on a show. Dedicated, sophisticated, professional, artistic, athletic people is what you get to work with when you are a part of their team.
OVO, the Cirque du Soleil's 25th production in 25 years, feature an insect themed show to the rhythm of Brazilian sounds, combining traces of samba, forró, carimbó, Rio funk, and samba-reggae. The sounds of real insects are also incorporated into the buoyant tribal score and the mix complements OVO's colorful, airy and chaotically fanciful characters, full of joy, warmth & life. It is a pure celebration of love, life & humanity. I loved it.
Make sure to have an extra 10$ for parking, you can not avoid that, since there is no other place to park.
Advice: If you are a coffee lover, try the Al Van Houtte Coffee they are selling, it is one of the best in Montreal's coffee, it cost 3$ for a hot good delicious coffee. Not to forget to mention their nice wine "Black Swan" if you like drinking a glass of alcohol as you enjoy watching the show.
Cirque du Soleil boutique is there to make you feel like a star when you get dressed by their cloth.
A Bit pricey but it is worth it.
