The Kansas Lottery announced an anonymous Overland Park resident in her 60's claimed a $2,131,500 cash jackpot on Jan. 3, 2014. The Super Kansas Cash ticket was drawn on Nov. 27, 2013; she discovered she won on Thanksgiving day.
“We were all having dinner at our son’s house and had just gotten done putting the turkey in the oven. I checked my phone to see if anybody had won the Super Kansas Cash jackpot the night before. I saw the jackpot had been hit and when I checked the numbers, I found out it was my ticket!” said the winner.
According to the Kansas Lottery news release, the winning ticket was purchased for $3 and the numbers were 5-8-11-23-25 Cashball 15. After taxes, the lucky Overland Park resident will take home $1,492,085. She said she’ll use the prize money for a family trip, bills and retirement.
The winner had 365 days from the date of the drawing to claim the jackpot. She decided to wait until after the New Year for tax purposes, stashing the $2.13 million ticket in her daughter’s safe.
Super Kansas Cash is a Kansas-only game with jackpots starting at $100,000. Players get two plays for $1 and can purchase up to 15 consecutive draws on a single ticket. Drawings are held every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.
