You can take the boy out of the bakery, but you can't take the bakery out of owner Brian Horwitz. The creamery shop is inspired by Horwitz’s Grandma Millie.

He seeks to recreate his childhood visits to his grandmother’s Southern California bakeshop and combine it with his passion for flavorful ice cream that is long on texture but not overwhelmingly sweet.

The sweet treat creamery has two shops located in San Francisco’s Marina district at 2144 Chestnut St. and at Embarcadero 4 at 50 Drumm Street, directly facing Justin Hermann Plaza.

“San Francisco has some great ice cream shops and wonderful bakeries, but nowhere is anyone combining these all-time favorite treats,” explained Horwitz.

These delicious treats that come from a family affair, are worth indulging in. With the help of his Uncle Steve who reinterpreted Horwitz’s family cookies from hand written recipes and Chris Ahr, a consulting chef with a solid history, whose ice cream palette draws on traditional American flavors that appeal to all ages. Over the Moon is more than an exercise in nostalgia.

This Thursday and Friday, January 30 and 31, you can take advantage of “Opening Specials” at both stores that will feature $1 freshly baked cookies, $2 mini cups and cones of creamy, small batch house made ice cream and $3 “Create Your Own” sandwiches that combine both.
