Matthew 13:11-13 (NLT)
He replied, “You are permitted to understand the secrets of the Kingdom of Heaven, but others are not. To those who listen to my teaching, more understanding will be given, and they will have an abundance of knowledge. But for those who are not listening, even what little understanding they have will be taken away from them. That is why I use these parables,
For they look, but they don’t really see. They hear, but they don’t really listen or understand.
The world of technology has opened doors to knowledge and understanding like never before. When experiencing difficulties in life, no matter what it may be just Google it! You will find a plethora of opinions and facts concerning the subject. However, if you simply read the highlights of the search engine’s results without taking the time to study each commentary – it may do more harm than good. The Internet is filled with mankind’s take on things including the expert and novice. There are even people who will give false information just out of a deceit. There is a joke that if you find it on the Internet it must be right. Information, knowledge and understanding are only as good as the foundation of truth they are built upon. The less known about a certain subject the more likely one is to fall for a lie rather than understanding the truth. When something breaks in the house, my husband hits You Tube for answers and instructions on how to fix it. Sometimes the solutions are logical and work, other times I must insist that we call a professional before something gets broken or worse someone gets hurt. Knowledge is power. I believe this statement to be true. The Word of God says that people are actually destroyed by a lack of knowledge. (Hosea 4:6) This is true in so many ways. When our son was diagnosed with cancer, the doctor instructed us NOT to get on the Internet. He felt it would be frightening, devastating and cause more harm than good. Knowledge without understanding is quite frightening when it comes to certain things especially life and death. As a believer, you are permitted to understand the secrets of the Kingdom of Heaven…but others are not. To those who listen more understanding is given and they will have an abundance of knowledge. But are we listening? Who are we listening to? Do we really know the Lord any more than the day we first met Him at the foot of the Cross? Sadly, not many people know the God they serve or the powerful potential locked inside of them due to a profound lack of knowledge that does not allow a firm foundation of faith that develops confident hope which causes us to flourish in the Wisdom of God.
Isaiah 55:8-9 (NLT)
“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the LORD. And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.”
We serve a Living God whose thoughts are nothing like human reasoning. His Ways are far beyond anything one might imagine. The Heavens are higher than the earth and God’s Way of doing things is too! We must elevate are thinking above what we see, smell and touch to the unseen reality of the Kingdom of God. It is a common practice for human beings to try to make God like us in the way that He operates. Such people do not know and understand the God that they serve! God is not like us…thank the Lord! God is not a man that He would ever lie or change His Mind. That is good news for us! (Numbers 23:19) If God said that He would do it, He is most definitely going to do it in His Time according to His Plan. This isn’t such a bad thing either considering that He is working every detail of our life for good (Romans 8:28) and His Plan for our life contains a future and hope. (Jeremiah 29:11) We must learn to align our thinking, understanding and knowledge with the Kingdom of God and stop stinking thinking. God’s Way is completely over my head. Yet I as I strive to know the Lord more in return He gives me more understanding of His Will and Way for my life. To those who listen to God’s teaching more understanding is given. In fact, they are promised an abundance of knowledge not to be used for temporary things but to build up the Eternal things in our life including faith, hope and love. These are the seeds that produce the fruit of God’s Spirit in our life which are “love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.” (Galatians 5:22-23) As we gain understanding of who God is, how He operates and what He is after in us. God’s Spirit literally instructs and guides us in pleasing our Father. (Philippians 2:13) This is all part of acquired knowledge and understanding of the Lord turned into action which is defined as wisdom allowing us to become firmly established in faith and confident hope! Without faith, it is impossible to please God! (Hebrews 11:6) Faith comes by hearing the Word of God! (Romans 10:17)
Isaiah 11:1-5 (NLT)
Out of the stump of David’s family will grow a shoot—yes, a new Branch bearing fruit from the old root. And the Spirit of the LORD will rest on him—the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the LORD. He will delight in obeying the LORD. He will not judge by appearance nor make a decision based on hearsay. He will give justice to the poor and make fair decisions for the exploited. The earth will shake at the force of his word, and one breath from his mouth will destroy the wicked. He will wear righteousness like a belt and truth like an undergarment.
The Power of Jesus of Christ is the Word. It is the very essence of who Jesus Christ is. (John 1:14) Jesus Christ was essentially God’s Word wrapped in flesh sent to live among His People and demonstrate God’s Love to all mankind. The Spirit of the Lord has many characteristics but in this passage it focuses on Wisdom and Understanding. The Spirit is our counselor. He is the Spirit of Knowledge. Without being nourished by the Word of God which is the Bread of Life and Living Water, how will our Spirit flourish in drought-like conditions? The Body of Christ is living in famine today because no one spends time in the Word. We will watch others who have spent time in it to hear what they have to say. We will read books to benefit from others who have discovered wisdom for life in God’s Word. But seldom does anyone spend more than a couple minutes in the Word of God, listening to His Voice and gaining a higher level of understanding of who He is or what Jesus is all about. How can we know Jesus and not the Word when the two are one? The Power of Jesus Christ is found in the Word and vice versa. Without the Word of God, we will be overtaken by the words of this world including every opinion expert or not. God has given you His Spirit with purpose. You will only discover it if you take the time to increase your knowledge of the Lord and develop a deeper understanding. Everything you have prayed for, dreamed of and hoped are hidden there for your discovery! The choice of blessing or cursing and life or death rest in your pursuit of wisdom and knowledge. Who can know the Lord? You can! Where will I find Him? In His Word.
Proverbs 2:1-8 (NLT)
My child, listen to what I say, and treasure my commands. Tune your ears to wisdom, and concentrate on understanding. Cry out for insight, and ask for understanding. Search for them as you would for silver; seek them like hidden treasures. Then you will understand what it means to fear the LORD, and you will gain knowledge of God. For the LORD grants wisdom! From his mouth come knowledge and understanding. He grants a treasure of common sense to the honest. He is a shield to those who walk with integrity. He guards the paths of the just and protects those who are faithful to him.
The entries each day in this blog called Puredevotion.org are nothing more than a dictation of the time I spend with the Lord each day. After many frustrating years of reading the Bible and never really gaining understanding from five minutes here and ten minutes there, I decided to really dig in and pursue the Voice of God. For over 1600 consecutive days, He has met me in the place and spoken to me. I simply transcribe what He says. What began as a thirty minute commitment, now pulls me out of bed well before the sun. I crave it. I need it. I cannot live without these daily encounters with God. People have said the devotions are too long or too deep or with too many references. I make no apologies. These are not my words but from the Spirit of the Living God. If you would like a different format, length or content, just let Him know. What you are reading each day is not me? It is to encourage you to seek the Lord daily for yourself. He will speak directly to those who are listening. Jesus will give you knowledge and understanding if you want it enough to invest a little time in it. He will lead you if you will simply follow. It must become valuable in your life. It’s crazy how over the last five years things have changed. Habits have changed. Influences have changed. Actions have changed. Most importantly, my attitude has changed all as a result of more understanding, knowledge and wisdom from the Lord. What He is doing in my life, He will most certainly do for you! Do you treasure God’s Word today? If so, you will search for it! (Matthew 13:44)
Jeremiah 4:22 (NLT)
“My people are foolish and do not know me,” says the LORD. “They are stupid children who have no understanding. They are clever enough at doing wrong, but they have no idea how to do right!”
To know God is wisdom! Stop beating yourself up for doing all the wrong things and just spend some time getting to know the Lord instead. If you try to do all the right things without knowing the Lord, you are going to fail. This is simply religion. It is the relationship developed through increased knowledge and understanding that allows us to understand His Word, Will and Way so we are not threatened in giving our life to the One who loved us first and loves us most. You will never know the Love of God if you do not know His Word. We are taught the world’s way from birth – we begin to learn to live life according to His Kingdom after we are born again. God knows that you must grow, develop and mature in the things. But if you do not strive to do so than do not expect to thrive in the Kingdom of God experiencing the blessings and promises of higher thoughts and ways. If you feed on the knowledge of this world, it always leads to death and disappointment. You must learn to think like the Lord and do what His Word indicates to have everything prosperity has to offer beginning with our soul. Turn off the television. Evaluate the music you listen to. Really look at what you allow your eyes to focus on. Choose to open your eyes to His Word, Will and Way. Give His Spirit something to work with in your life. Listen for the Voice of God because He still speaks even today!
I John 5:18-20 (NLT)
We know that God’s children do not make a practice of sinning, for God’s Son holds them securely, and the evil one cannot touch them. We know that we are children of God and that the world around us is under the control of the evil one. And we know that the Son of God has come, and he has given us understanding so that we can know the true God. And now we live in fellowship with the true God because we live in fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ. He is the only true God, and he is eternal life.
Knowledge is power. Knowledge is life especially when who we know is Jesus Christ. Do not let the enemy rob you of the valuable resource of knowledge and understanding found in seeking His Higher Ways and knowing God’s Own Thoughts! His Spirit lives in you to cultivate such wisdom by faith and confident in hope making you immovable and unshakeable no matter if all hell is breaking loose around you! You can be firmly established in His Word! By doing so, we learn how to live a life pleasing to God as we choose to abandon sin and walk through life His Way. God holds such people securely. The evil one cannot touch them as God moves us deeper into His Presence. Yes His Ways are higher and His Thoughts are, too. But they are never out of reach for His Children like you!
Isaiah 33:6 (NLT)
In that day he will be your sure foundation, providing a rich store of salvation, wisdom, and knowledge. The fear of the LORD will be your treasure.
Proverbs 3:14-16 (NLT)
For wisdom is more profitable than silver, and her wages are better than gold. Wisdom is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her. She offers you long life in her right hand and riches and honor in her left.
