Hills Creek State Park in scenic Tioga County is a quiet park with a lake for boating, kayaking, canoeing. It has abundant wildlife with visiting waterfowl of osprey and loon. The parks 407 acres are a wonderful place for a family vacation with camping, cabins, picnicking, lakes for swimming and fishing.

Hills Creek State Park is midway between Wellsboro PA 8 miles southwest and Mansfield 8 miles west. The campground opens mid April closing the end of October at the north end of the park accessible by the park road. The 85-site campground has electric hookups, washrooms with flush toilets and heated showers.

Ten attractive cabins may be rented all year. They are furnished, with a living area, kitchen/dining area, 2 bedrooms and shower. Renters need only bring kitchen utensils, bed linen, and food.

Two picnic areas have 3 reservable pavilions. Each equipped with picnic tables, charcoal grills, and restrooms. One picnic area is near the swimming beach with a second at the south end of the lake near its dam.

Hills Creek Lake is west of the park and Tauscher pond east. The 137-acre lake has a sand beach for swimming with a bathhouse and snack bar. Lake fishing produces warm water species of muskellunge, walleye, largemouth bass, carp, bullhead catfish, bluegill, crappie and yellow perch. Boats with electric motors are permitted on the lake with 3 mooring areas. The lake has a fishing pier for people with disabilities. The park is closed to hunting and trapping within its jurisdiction.

Three restful hiking trails total 5.5 miles. Lakeside trail is 3 miles long following along the lakeshore. Tauscher trail is 1-½ miles circling the northeast part of the park with abundant wildlife along this route. Yellow Birch trail is 1 mile through diverse forest habitats showing signs of wildlife.

Wellsboro PA is a borough 52 miles northwest of Williamsport PA, with 3,328 population. It was a trade and shipping center early in the 20th century. Mansfield is 36 miles southwest of Elmira NY at the intersection of routes 15 and route 6. Currently with a population of 3,625 it was settled in 1800 by a pioneer of Rhode Island.

Elmira NY is a city north of the Pennsylvania border with 29,200 population. It was originally occupied by the Cayuga Nation of Iroquois Confederacy called the Kanawaholla.

Hills Creek State Park is a 130 minute drive of 135 miles from Rochester NY with a gas cost of $11.00 (VW). Drive south on route 15 passing the state border into Mansfield Pennsylvania. Drive east on route 6 following signs exiting north to Hills Creek State Park.
