Several upcoming titles that will be released publishing giant, Electronic Arts, are being built upon the new Frostbite 3 development engine from DICE. OXM reported on Oct 23 that Frostbite technical director Johan Andersson revealed that there are over 15 games currently in development that are using the new Frostbite engine.
This number far exceeds the number of titles that have been announced to use the Frostbite 3 engine. The most prominent upcoming titles include ‘Star Wars: Battlefront,’ ‘Dragon Age: Inquisition,’ and the newt ‘Mass Effect’ game. This means that there are numerous games in the works that are using the Frostbite engine that have yet to be announced.
DICE’s soon to release, Battlefield 4, also uses the Frostbite 3 engine and Andersson has stated that they have used the development steps of popular first-person shooter franchise to create a kind of template that can be used in later Frostbite games such as the MANTLE API system.
