OUYA Android game console: A refreshing alternative to Xbox 360 and PS3 (Photos)

The Ouya Android game console is coming soon to a store near you that will change the way you think of your home gaming console. This was announced by News for Shoppers on Feb. 9, 2013.

The Ouya game console is turning the console industry on its head. From its outset as an idea only, the Kick Start project, caught major attention with its immense possibilities and was fully funded. The major gaming console companies charge customers and developers in numerous ways but Ouya takes the angle of being open and affordable to developers and customers in dire economic times.

Every game on the Ouya console will be free for any customer to try. Some games may let you play a demo version, certain levels, or only parts of the game and if the customer loves what they see with the game, it can be purchased through the Ouya store. Many developers already have hundreds of titles ready for the system. It will be a great place for big and small developers alike with its low cost development and online only delivery method for all games.

Keep in mind with this low price point of $99 for the Ouya game system it's not meant to compete with the intense technology and graphic levels of the PS3 and Xbox 360 systems. Ouya exclusively runs on Android as its operating system. Its very similar to tablets and portable gaming devices rather than a very powerful gaming system.

The specs of the Ouya system are as follows:

The system has a portable 1.7GHz Quad Core ARM Cortex-A9, 8GB of storage, 1GB of RAM and USB inputs. The console will allow users to connect to the internet via Wi-Fi or Ethernet. Additionally, the Ouya will be capable of running 1080p HD graphics through its HDMI port. (News for Shoppers)"

Pre-orders for the Ouya system are now available for a June release in the United States for customers and major retailers. It can be pre-ordered through online retail websites Amazon, Best Buy, and Target. Also, it can be pre-ordered directly from Ouya's main website. The price includes the Ouya system and one wireless controller. You can purchase an additional controllers for $49.

Ouya developers are banking on the fact that customers will forgive the less intense graphics of the system and purchase the system based on the brilliant price point, ease of use, and free use of every game before buying. Ouya will release a new $99 console every year starting from 2013.
