Ouya Android console to be released in June

Did you miss out on the Ouya's Kickstarter fundraiser? Don't worry - in a recent interview, CEO Julie Uhrman confirmed the Android console, which raised over 8.5 million dollars during the fundraiser, will be launched nationwide in June. Major retailers such as GameStop, Best Buy, Target and Amazon are going to sell the system, with an MSRP of 100 dollars. The system will be bundled with one controller, and the company will be offering additional ones for 50 dollars each.

The Google Android based system remains one of the most successful Kickstarter projects to date, and those who backed the system during the fundraiser will recieve their consoles in March, followed by all early pre-order customers in April and public distribution in June.

There are over two hundred Ouya-compatible titles in work currently, including Minecraft and ShadowGun. Developers have shared there experiences with the dev kit last week, stating the system is "underpowered but promising", with specs similar to your typical tablet.

Online pre-orders begin 5 February 2013.
