Sure, you’ve heard of Outside Lands in terms of being a major music festival that takes place each summer in Golden Gate Park. But did you know that Outside Lands is also a neighborhood?
More commonly called the Outer Sunset, it’s come into its own as the Gen X and Y crowds have discovered its dramatic oceanfront beach and proximity to Golden Gate Park. Now there’s a string of great coffee and breakfast places along Judah, just blocks from the ocean. Charming postwar architecture mixes in with older beach cottages, creating a friendly funky vibe.
Refinery 29 has a guide to the “perfect cool-kid day trip” to Outside Lands. Suggestions include the Outerlands eatery, Trouble Coffee and Ocean Beach itself. It’s all accessible by the N-Judah, which is not nearly so long a ride as some may think. The train itself connects the Outside Lands to the rest of the city.
The Friendly Neighborhood Guide also has a few insights into the neighborhood, mainly that it’s “a strong family area”, secure, and foggy. Check it out for yourself!
