In these hard economic times, the music industry has suffered financial woes and needs to rely on donations from fans to contribute to their projects. This is why OUTMusic (the LGBT Academy of Recording Arts) has launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for a live music documentary production about LGBT music culture. For those who are not familiar with Kickstarter, it is the world’s largest funding platform for creative projects. As an online platform, it can easily reach millions of people around the world and effectively fund goals within a deadline. The project for the live music documentary will only be funded if at least $200,000 is pledged by the end of September this year.
The title of the documentary will be For Which We Stand (One Queer Music Nation in the Visible) and will be produced by Paul Warner and directed by Sean Robinson. Director Sean Robinson hopes to produce a socially and politically pro-active feature-length documentary film that will not only spotlight queer music culture, but will keep the torch of LARA burning, as the fight for equality moves forward into the next era.
For Which We Stand will document the long history of LGBT music culture, its contribution and its influences on mainstream entertainment. As music has always played an instrumental role in changing the hearts and minds of people worldwide, Chairwoman Diedra Meredith hopes the documentary will help the world recognise queer music culture as an integral part of the media and music industry. Due to the recent success of the LGBT equality movement, she hopes that the documentary will contribute to the significant social and political change in society.
