Outlandish outhouses will go head to head in Nashville, Indiana, during the World Championship NashCar Outhouse Race on Sept. 14.
The annual event is a fundraiser organized by the We Care Gang, a local group of caring citizens who use the funds to help others in the community with basic living needs.
“The NashCar Outhouse Race is a fun and unique event that is not only great for everyone, but an awesome example of the Brown County community pulling together for such a good cause,” said Jane Ellis, Executive Director of the Brown County Convention and Visitors Bureau.
“Visitors and locals alike are invited to the community picnic and can spend the day together enjoying the good food, cheering on their favorites at all the competitions, and laughing at the exceptional themes outhouse participants always come up with,” Ellis said.
Outhouses are a homemade work of art with some very creative themes, along with a driver and a pit crew. All outhouses wait for the flag to wave and the race to start at the top of the hill on Main Street in the Village. The goal is to see which outhouse goes the farthest.
The whole style of the outhouse competition is downhill derby, where teams accumulate points throughout the different events of the weekend based on their performance in competitions, team theme, the race, and the amount of money raised.
The team earning the most points is the winner. The race will be officiated by fan favorite Boomer, mascot for the Indiana Pacers.
