Outgunning the boys

There are four men and one woman running to succeed Carolyn Elmore as Delegate from District 38A. But I guess this momma doesn't wear an apron too much since she gained this particular endorsement:

Kirk Jones, President of the Pioneer Sportsmen’s Association, is pleased to announce the endorsement of Julie Brewington, Republican candidate for the House of Delegates; District 38A on behalf of the Pioneer Sportsmen’s Association.

Julie’s strong stance on second amendment gun rights, protection of small business, watermen, and farmers against government intervention, over taxation and regulation makes her the right choice for our representative for the House of Delegates. Julie will be a strong voice for us in Annapolis and we know that she is true conservative and the right representative for 38A. She will fight for our way of life on the Eastern Shore. We fully support her candidacy, and support her as the right choice for sportsmen and women in 38A. We know once elected Julie will be available and open to addressing and defending our concerns.

While Julie may not appear to be the outdoors type, she knows her way around a gun and is an avid target shooter. She's actually considered hosting a target shooting event featuring the five District 38A candidates with proceeds going to charity. (No word on whether she can field dress a moose like Sarah Palin, but supporting the Second Amendment will score points among voters in her rural district.)

More importantly, getting the support of a 400-person bloc of voters (presumably many within her district) can make a difference in a district where the last contested GOP primary in 2002 drew 3,100 votes total, especially in a four-way race where the winner could well have no more than 1,500.

She may not be Annie Oakley, but this endorsement could put the target of advancing to the general election in her sights.

Thank you for a well written article. Annapolis needs more second amendment friendly delegates, after googling Ms. Brewington, I visited a blog in which some sensationalist was attacking her and our Constitution. We are fortunate to have a writer like yourself who applauds our freedoms, rather than quickly rolls over to a four on the floor position in search of a few paltry advertising bucks, or increasing some supposed hit counter.

I live in Wicomico County and I'm a PSA member. I am glad that Julie Brewington is running for office. She is clearly the sportsman choice. My wife just printed the form off the site to change to Republican.
