Now that you have found the perfect Pug and the inside of your house is safe, it is time to make sure that the yard is safe.

Take a walk around your yard. Look for holes in the fence. If a normal sized orange can fit through the hole, so can your Pug. The wood fence is easy enough; replace the boards that have holes. Other types of fence can be more problematic. Use your common sense and fix the problem. During your walk, also look for exposed, sharp places on your garden edging. In Colorado Springs, you can go to any hardware store and get a covering for the edging. If you are under a tight budget, find an old hose; make a cut down one side using garden shears. Pull the hose apart and cover the sharp edge.

The next thing to look for are the poisonous plants. Outside, you will have to remove them. As usual, you will have to store all the chemicals in the shed or garage. Don’t forget about the can that catches all that grease from the grill, this is a tasty treat for the puppy. The grease can also make the puppy very sick.

Pugs are not usually a digging dog. Watch for areas that do not have any grass or rock. Pugs will have fun playing in dirt and find that they can dig under the fence.

Next, cover any electrical cords or cables. You might have to bury the cable or hang it higher on the house to prevent a sick puppy and loss of television.

Find a good place to keep a bowl of fresh water. This will be an area away from their potty spot. Even though the puppy will not be left outdoor for long periods, you will want them to have access to water if needed

Last you will want to make sure that all gates have lock. You new puppy will try anything and everything. A new Pug might find away to get the gate open and explore the neighborhood. A lock will also prevent anybody that does not belong in your yard out.

You might not have a yard, it is alright. Take time to find a good dog park. Colorado Springs dog parks are some of the best places for you to pay with your Pug and have fun.

Taking the time to make your yard safe will make the time outside enjoyable for you and your Pug. You can never be too safe.
