Outdoor winter activities in Connecticut (Photos)

While many Connecticut residents are stuck at home after the blizzard, cabin fever may be developing. It might have left you day dreaming about your next getaway or outdoor activity. Below is a host of outdoor winter activities here in Connecticut.

Winding Trails has 12.5 miles of trails for cross country skiing and snow shoeing. Located at 50 Winding Trail Drive in Farmington, CT you'll get a great work out while trying a new hobby. Rental equipment is available including snow shoes, skate skis, and traditional skis. Their hours of operation are 9am to 5pm. Trail passes are $14 for adults, $10 for ages 62 and over, $8 for children ages 3 to 12, and $2 off for a half day of trails after 2pm. No pets are allowed on the trails. Various ski slopes are up and running across Connecticut. Mount Southington is located in Southington, CT and offers 14 trails. Ski Sundown located at 126 Ratlum Road in New Hartford, CT has 15 trails for ski lovers. Woodbury Ski Area has a large tubing park, sledding, snowboarding, and skiing on 12 trail. This family friendly ski resort is located in Woodbury, CT.

Now that the temperatures have dropped, ice has frozen. That means it's time for ice fishing. Try the following lakes located in Connecticut to try your luck at catching bass, bluegills, or northern pike. Bantam Lake located in Litchfield, CT is well known for their small and largemouth bass. Also consider Highland Lake in Winchester, Tyler Lake in Goshen, and Coventry Lake. Be sure to check ice thickness and precautions before venturing out on the ice.
