If you like outdoor winter activities, there are several events going on this weekend that won't break the budget.
Ice Fishing for Beginners will be held on Kensington Metropark Nature Center on Saturday, January 18, from 1 to 4 p.m. This event is for ages 6 and older. There is a fee of $5 per person, and registration is required. If you attend you are asked to bring an ice fishing pole, and to dress for the weather. Also on Saturday, January 18, there will be an Owl Walk, at 7 p.m. at the Brighton State Recreation Area. This walk is to try and spot Nesting Screech Owls, and Great Horned Owls, and it will be held by the Crossroads Group of the Sierra Club. There will be a potluck for attendees at 5 p.m. at 6277 Cowell Rd. in Brighton, Township. If attending this event it is asked that you bring a dish to pass, bring a flashlight, and dress for the weather. Affordable Cross Country Ski Lessons on January 18, and 19 at Huron Meadows Metropark in Green Oak, Township at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. The lessons for classic method of cross country skiing is for both kids and adults. Cost for adults is only $5, and children only $3. If you need to rent skis, adult ski rental is only $13, and children younger than 16 can rent skis for only $9.
