Outdoor January programs offered by Fairfax County Park Authority (Video)

The holiday season has ended but you can still enjoy outdoor winter programs in Ellanor C. Lawrence Park this January.

The Fairfax County Park Authority is offering a S'more Wagon ride and campfire on Wednesday, Jan. 9 at 6:30 p.m. Anyone two and older can attend the hour-long program, which meets at Cabell's Mill in the park.

Participants will take a wagon ride through Rocky Run Stream Valley while they learn about the park and watch for wildlife. Then they can make S'mores around a campfire. It costs $7 (more for those who don't live in Fairfax County).

And on Saturday, Jan. 19 at 10 a.m., the park is offering a paper boat race in the stream around the mill, which was used to produce cornmeal until 1916. The program also features a lesson on mills and this one's history. For ages seven and up. Adults must be registered with a child.

The mill is located at 5235 Walney Rd., Centreville, VA. Cost is $5 per person.

To register for either program, see http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/parks/parktakes/ or call (703) 222-4664.
