Springtime has finally arrived here on Long Island. Temperatures are beginning to rise and people are starting to move out of doors after what's been a long, cold winter. LGBT's from around the island are itching to get back over to Fire Island, but it's still a few weeks away before the crowds return to the island getaway. In the meantime, Nuts & Bolts is a great place to hang out outdoors.
In my introductory piece on Nuts & Bolts, I mentioned that the bar had a huge patio area, and that is no understatement. For the winter months, the owners had constructed a tent out there, with heating, to accommodate smokers and others who wish to catch some fresh air for a spell. That tent was a nice touch, but it really hid the 'huge' size of the entire outdoor area of the bar, which is larger than the space inside of the place.
Now that spring has sprung, the tent is gone and even though it's still a little chilly out there, that patio looks like a very inviting spot to spend warm evenings drinking, dancing, and socializing with friends. At the moment, the vast space is dotted with beautiful outdoor furniture, tables and such and it will surely serve as a great venue during the warm months ahead, especially as other things are added to the mix in the coming weeks, such as a tiki bar and space for food.
Nuts & Bolts has already begun a plan for using the space. Of course Friday and Saturday nights will be still host the regular weekend party crowd, which has been solid, but in addition the folks at N&B will be offering a free buffet on Sunday nights at 6 p.m. beginning tonight. Hopefully it will be the start of something good as soon the traditional tea dance will make its debut out on the patio as well. Stay tuned for more details.
