What is bullying? Do you think that bullying is a form of domestic abuse? For example, harmful bullying can occur quietly and covertly, through gossip or on the Internet, causing emotional damage.
• The behavior hurts or harms another person physically or emotionally.
• The targets have difficulty stopping the behavior directed at them, and struggle to defend themselves.
• Many definitions include a statement about the ”imbalance of power”, described as when the student with the bullying behavior has more “power”, either physically, socially, or emotionally, such as a higher social status, is physically larger or emotionally intimidating.
What is domestic violence?
Abuse is physical, sexual, emotional, economic or psychological actions or threats of actions that influence another person. This includes any behaviors that frighten, intimidate, terrorize, manipulate, hurt, humiliate, blame, injure or wound someone.
Just within a small definition you can compare and see the similarities. How do we save our youth from bullying when its developing into a pattern that could lead to domestic abuse?
This article is to get you to see what is going on in our children's lives. If adults have a problem with breaking the silence to domestic abuse then how are we helping our youth break the silence on bullying? This is part one of many articles we will target on domestic abuse in 2013.
