Out goes Phillips Seafood and in comes Bubba Gump Shrimp Co.

Bubba Gump Shrimp Co., the first restaurant group based on a motion picture, is moving into the space previously occupied by Phillips Seafood Restaurant and Phillips Express. Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. will open by May 2012.  It will offer tasty seafood in a casual family atmosphere and creative environment. Relax and enjoy the atmosphere or grab a bite while enjoying the sites; Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. will offer both a sit-down restaurant and a fast casual dining experience.

“Baltimore residents and tourists alike will have another great reason to visit Harborplace with the addition of Bubba Gump Shrimp Co.,” said Christopher Schardt, senior general manager, Harborplace & The Gallery. “We are delighted to bring this unique casual dining option to our city and expect our visitors to embrace this fun, casual seafood restaurant wholeheartedly.”

“We are excited to bring Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. to Harborplace on the historic Baltimore Inner Harbor,” said Jeff Cantwell, senior vice president of development for Landry’s Inc.  “Bubba Gump’s world famous seafood will be a wonderful addition to Harborplace’s assortment of top tier merchants. The outstanding waterfront views will be a fantastic compliment to our one-of-a-kind dining experience.”

"Bubba Gump Shrimp, Co. is a great new restaurant and attraction for the Inner Harbor and Harborplace," said Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake.  "I am grateful for the efforts of GGP to enhance Harborplace with new offerings for residents and visitors. Today's announcement builds upon the recent additions of Lenny's Delicatessen, H&M, and this summer’s opening of IT’SUGAR!"

"Baltimore is a seafood town, so Bubba Gump Shrimp Company should fit in well here," said Donald C. Fry, president and CEO of the Greater Baltimore Committee.  "Harborplace customers will have a new quality seafood restaurant in a long-standing location where they're accustomed to finding seafood offerings."

As the Shrimp Po’ Boy and Shrimp New Orleans indicate, Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. brings to life the 1994 hit movie “Forrest Gump.” The restaurant features down-home decor reminiscent of the movie’s Alabama setting. Film memorabilia and still photos decorate the walls, along with reproductions of script pages, storyboards and costumes, to create a fun family atmosphere. Scrawled “Gumpisms” decorate the varnished tabletops inside.  Guests can try on plaster casts of Forrest’s running shoes at the famed bus bench in front of the restaurant. A retail store within the restaurant sells souvenirs and clothing. Specialty items include Bubba’s shrimp cookbook, license plates with catch phrases like “RUN, Forrest, RUN,” boxes of chocolate, and T-shirts, hats and sweatshirts.
