Our World, A Ticking Time Bomb

The world today is a far cry from what it was back in 1991, for it was then that President George H.W. Bush spoke of his vision for a new world order. A new world order of peace and tranquility. Now, the world has turned into a ticking time bomb where at any moment one spark could ignite the fuse and send mankind right back into the cave of the Neanderthal. But, at the time a new world order could have been not such a bad idea. The first Gulf War was a smashing success for it only took a few months for the United States and our allies to soundly defeat Saddam Hussein’s military and drive the Iraqis out of Kuwait. The Soviet Union was collapsing as scores of Soviet satellite nations were breaking away from the Kremlin. China was moving away from being a closed-off military power, with the country focusing its sights on growing its economy and its manufacturing. Don't forget that this was before the US ratified NAFTA. Back then President Bush presumed that peace would last under the direction of the United Nations. A peace that would help build a better and more peaceful world ruled by a benevolent government. How naïve we all were. But, what we didn't know was that the first Gulf War set in motion a chain of events that would ignite the flames of terror that is now spreading like wild fire all across the globe.

More than two decades later, this new world order remains a fearful contemplation, but one best left for futuristic novels or maybe the Illuminati. While many people still sell new world order conspiracy theories, in reality though societies are fracturing at the regional, national and international levels. Now, halfway through 2014, a sandstorm of violent reprisals are blowing out of the Mideast and in Central Europe as tribal, political and religious hatreds boil over into mayhem far beyond the control of a centralized world government.

Along the Gaza Strip, the hatred has spilled so far that diplomacy has become pointless, allowing atrocities by Jews and Arabs to decimate whole populations. Even now when Hamas and Israel are in supposed peace talks the hatred continues to spread. Ukraine, the starting point for wars in the past century, is erupting in civil war today, threatening to once again set off another cold war between the West and Russia. A cold war that could escalate into a conventional and eventually a nuclear confrontation. With the latest sanctions imposed against Russia they in turn have turned the tables right back here on the US. Think food prices are high now just you wait. What our government officials have done is in effect created a worsening of economic conditions right here in the good old USA.

What we have today are tribal wars, religious wars and resource wars in practically every corner of the world. We would be wise to remember it was 100 years ago that the first World War was set off when Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria was assassinated. Twenty years later, the Ukraine which was rich in resources fueled the flames of yet another great war when Adolph Hitler invaded. Seven decades after Hitler’s defeat, the Ukraine has set in motion another firestorm of reprisals that continues to spill over where US has now imposed harsh sanctions upon Russia. Yet, this is hardly the extent of the hatred spreading around the world, a hatred that makes the U.N. more of a joke than an instrument of peace The Mideast, the depository for two-thirds of the world’s oil reserves and the last of the world’s cheap oil, is a cauldron of petroleum set to be ignited by a religious war.

What is so terrifying is that over 7,000 people from more than 70 nations, including the U.S., have answered the Islamic State group’s call to arms and have received training in Iraq and Syria. Their ultimate goal is to control all of greater Arabia and reverse European and multinational imperialism, which they feel has enslaved Syria and Iraq. Their ultimate ambitions can be expected to include Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and other rich oil producers of the region. It is these Islamic Extremists like Al-Qaeda that have developed into a self-sustaining army of militants the likes of which has not been seen since Hitler’s Wehrmacht rolled first West and then across Europe and into North Africa. From the amount of insurgence spreading there is indication that these factions will only grow in numbers and effectiveness.

By capturing huge oil and gas wells and selling them on the black market for a third of the benchmark price, the Islamic State group is a self-sustaining army. There can be little doubt its primary targets are the stupendously rich oil fields of Saudi Arabia, which has been Washington’s most steadfast ally in curbing Islamic violence and curbing oil prices. Yet, Saudi royals must accept a great deal of responsibility for the Islamic State group, which was spawned from the ultra-Islamic sect of Wahhabism, the most extreme form of Islam. They want complete global domination and adoption of Islam throughout the world. So dominant has the Islamic State group become that it is even spreading its radical beliefs from India to Europe and even in the United States has seen some extreme Islamic groups form.

What is so alarming is that one the fastest growing religious groups is in Germany where jihadists or salafist Islamic organizations that are recruiting young people not even of Turkish or Arabic origins. They are recruiting young German kids who are disaffected, have no goal in life, unemployed or facing a bleak future, and they are being recruited to believe in something, to believe in dying for Allah is the pathway to eternal life. If it is happening in Europe especially with younger populations being recruited the same thing will, if it already isn't happening, occur in every country that is economically depressed. The US is no exception either.

The world in chaos, complete and total disorder, a ticking time bomb poised to explode. If we allow the past to repeat we have only ourselves to blame for the carnage that continues to sweep across the surface of the earth. We are living in an age of not the new world order or some Utopia like environment but in an age of clashing ideologies fueled by oil, hate and disdain toward all others who have different ideologies. The longer the US and the world are so captivated by the energy sources of the past the sooner this hate between the brotherhood of mankind will indeed send our world back into the stone age. What a legacy to leave our children and grandchildren. We have an obligation right now to elect better leaders to prevent such forces of extremism from sweeping away any chance for peace and prosperity for all of mankind.
