Not enough can be said about the power of the people.
And when it comes to passionate, caring animal advocates, we really can't be stopped. It's been proven yet again as Gorham Town Supervisor, Fred Lightfoote, has changed his position on a proposed mass dog breeding facility that would house up to 600 dogs.
Initially, plans had been approved for Curtis and Jolene Martin to open another breeding facility - they currently own one in Varick, NY that has been cited for violations.
As reported by Life With Dogs, Lightfoote has gone so far as to suggest a moratorium on all proposed dog breeding facilities in the town.
And why? They've been buried in phone calls, petitions, and emails from angry citizens.
Tomorrow, a Town Board meeting will be held, at which time they will decide whether to enact this moratorium. If a moratorium is enacted, they will have time to, as Lightfoote puts it, review the zoning laws.
I'm so proud of us. Whether or not this puppy mill operation is successfully shot down before it begins, we were still heard. And we will not be ignored. If they choose to allow the facility to open...well, we'll just have to keep making noise.
A big thank you to Fred Lightfoote for taking notice of the people of his town and around the country.
