"Our Mother's Murder" aka "Daughters" is a 1997 fact-based movie. It is based on the murder of Anne Scripps Douglas by her much younger husband Scott Douglas. It aired for the first time on the USA Network. The movie stars Roxanne Hart and Hollie Marie Combs. Most of the real names were used in the film.
Advertised as a movie "based on actual events," it is told from the perspective of a daughter who watches her mother go from a beautiful, graceful woman to a woman who is being controlled and abused by her younger husband. Viewers watch a gut-wrenching account of the pain that this family endurs at the hands of one very abusive man.
The true life events occurred in Bronxville, NY in December 1989. That's when police say Scott Douglas, killed his wife Anne Scipps Douglas aka Ann Scripps Douglas, a New York socialite, by striking her repeatedly with a hammer as she slept.
The movie follows the case up until Douglas' death, but the after story is much worse for two of her daughters. According to the Movies Based On True Stories Archives, Anne Morell Petrillo committed suicide in 2010 by jumping from a bridge, and the other daughter, Tori Scripps, was arrested due to drugs.
The movie now airs on Lifetime's movie channel periodically.
