A Daily Word from the Word for Monday, October 14, 2013
Because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.” -1 Peter 1:16
Holiness. Being Holy. The Greek word for both uses of “holy” in this verse is hagios (pr. hag-ee-os) which means “sacred, blameless, clean, modest, innocent, perfect, chaste, pure” (Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance).
We are holy because of the One whose Name we wear, because of the One by whose Blood we were saved, because of the One who lives in us, because of the One whom we live in. We are Holy because Jesus is Holy. This is part of your birthright, family, and to say otherwise is to call God a liar. Why? Because God is not a man who should lie (Numbers 23:19), for God is Truth and Light, and in Him is no darkness at all (1 John 1:5); therefore, God said “Because it is written” we are Holy because Jesus is Holy. The word “because” comes from the Greek word dioti (pr. dee-ot-ee) meaning “through, on the very account that, inasmuch as.” On the very account that Jesus is Holy, that through Jesus, we are Holy.
Being Holy means that we belong to God, because we are washed in the Blood of Jesus. This is a label that I am proud to wear. It is a label of identity and protection. I hear too many people say that they do not believe in labels or describe themselves as “self made.” This must grieve the very heart of God, because these misled souls choose to wear an identity other than that of Jesus. And there is no other Name by which we are saved (Acts 4:12). There is an old saying that if you don’t stand for something, you will fall for anything. I would qualify this statement by adding if you don’t stand for and stand on the right something, you will fall for anything. And that right something, Somebody, is God and His Word! We are not self made, we are God-made—formed by His own Hands! Now that’s something to shout about, my brother! That’s something to sing about, my sister! Get excited with me, family!
If you don’t allow God to mark you with His label, then you are open to being marked by the devil with his label, which is a mark of eternal death. When you belong to God, the devil has to go before Him and ask permission before He can do anything to you! The devil can’t just have his way with you. Why? Because you are Holy because Jesus is Holy! Because you are child of the Most High King! Because you are labeled as God’s Property!
Take a page from the story of Job: “One day the angels came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came with them. The LORD said to Satan, ‘Where have you come from?’ Satan answered the LORD, ‘From roaming throughout the earth, going back and forth on it.’ Then the LORD said to Satan, ‘Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil’” (Job 1:6-8). Do you see this? Satan had to go before God and ask before He could do anything to Job! Why? Because Job already wore God’s Label. Job was “blameless and upright!”
Another example of this comes forth as incense in Luke 22:31-32, when Jesus said to Peter “Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift all of you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail.” Again, why did Satan have to ask? Because He didn’t have the right, or the claim to Peter because of the label that Peter wore!
Now, I know some of you are thinking “yeah, well, Satan has sure had his way with me.” My brother and sister, if God allowed Satan to have his complete way with you, I promise you that you would not be reading this message today. You and your life would have been brought to utter and complete destruction. God always says of his children to the devourer (those who wear His label) “this far and no farther!” (Job 38:11). Why does God allow the devil to mess with us to a certain degree? For many reasons. Sometimes we open a door like Job did. The Word tells us in Job 3:25 “What I feared has come upon me; what I dreaded has happened to me,” which means that Job must have been confessing some things out of his mouth that were in direct contradiction to the Will and Word of God, which opened a door to allow the enemy to come in. Does that mean Job was a bad person? Absolutely not! Remember, God Himself said that Job was blameless and upright. But that is why we must be so careful of what comes out of our mouth. Our confession will either bring us good or bring us evil.
At other times God allows us to go through something because we need to be built up, strengthened, and prepared for where He wants to take us. It is not that God does a thing to us, but he allows it for our good. It is by no means pleasant for God or for us, but it is necessary. God always “works all things out for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:28). Notice this verse reads “all things.” Not some things, but all things! And we all are called according to His purpose.
The question before you today is: will you accept the call? Will you accept the plan and the purpose of God for you and your life? I pray that you do, because it is a marvelous and amazing plan and purpose that God has waiting for you. You simply need to put on God’s Label of Holiness and step into it!
Father, thank You that we are holy because you are Holy. Thank You that we are made Holy by the Blood of The Lamb. Thank You that we have overcome by the Blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony (Revelation 12:11). We are so grateful that You are our Provider, Protector, Way Maker, and our Strong Tower, and that You keep us in all of our ways (Psalm 91:11). We bless Your Holy Name. In Jesus Name, we thank You that we wear Your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen and Amen.
Take action! Challenge your thinking! Choose to accept and wear God’s label—His Stamp of Approval, Who is Jesus Christ. Start wearing your identity as the badge of honor, as the badge of protection and identity that it is. Start speaking your identity out loud to yourself, to others, and to every opposing spirit that tries to come against you. Decree and declare who you are! You are a child of the Most High King, washed in the Blood! And continue to fight the good fight of walking in the Son; for God, your Label Maker, has already given you the victory!
If you have never received Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, I encourage you to do it today, right now, by saying this prayer out loud: “Jesus, forgive me for my sins. I am sorry. I truly desire to be saved and reconciled back to God, my Father, through You. I receive Your sinless Blood as payment in full for my sins—past, present, and future. I now call You my Lord and Savior, and invite You to live within my heart, and to permanently live within me. I make You Lord over me and over my life from this moment on. Amen.” Congratulations! You are now a child of God, made whole and made new, by the Blood of Jesus Christ!
