Our Beatles iTunes survey: first results

Recently, we asked you if you planned to buy any Beatles songs on iTunes.

Here are the first results from over 400 votes. Overwhelmingly, you said you won't.:

  • 62% said, "No, because I have all I need."
  • 18% said, "No."
  • 14% said, "Yes."
  • 7% said, "Maybe."

Adding the first two results together, that makes a total of 80% who won't buy them.

And here are the age ranges of those who voted:

  • Over 50, 47%
  • 41-50, 25%
  • 21-30 9%
  • Under 21 5%

The poll is still open. You can find the link here. If you haven't voted already, feel free to add yours. We'll do another results report in a couple of days.

I have purchased 1 song, to get "A Day in the Life" with a clean intro, instead of the crossfade from SPLHCB. Now wondering if "I Should Have Known Better" has the repaired harmonica on the intro.

Same here! I bought "A Day in the Life" for the same reason. I highly doubt that "I Should Have Known Better" will have a fixed harmonica intro.

Hmmmm...where are all the folks who were bitching at me last week on how precious Beatles on iTunes is. Let's see...overwhelming NOs and the 2 folks who did just (see above) just did so to avoid buying the entire Blue album for one tune. People jumped on me like I am an anti-Apple bigot. I type this on my iPad which I just updated to 4.2. I have 3 other iPods...all of which have both box sets on them. So, no I do not hate Apple or iTunes. My issue is that you lemmings should not buy the same stuff already out on iTunes. It gives NO incentives for Apple Corps to give us something new. The BEST thing for us fans would be for Beatles on iTunes to fail miserably...so Apple Corps starts listening to their fans...

On a personal note, this could be a overkill that,s only me.

Well with over 2 million song downloads in one week and 450,000 albums sold it seems like it paid off. Don't forget all the people who may be away, particularly college students away from home who may not have any CDs with them and will re-buy some favorites, or people bored at work, or just people who want everything, or new fans.

Abbey Road is going to re-chart in the Top 50 on the Billboard 200. According to Hits DD, it's around #44 with 18,624 albums sold in the USA.

The Beatle release on iTunes is a day late and a dollar short. I bought the boxed set last year, so I am not going to buy it again. I am considering ADITL with out the Sgt Pepper Crossfade though. I think thats whats going to be the biggest sellers for the Beatles on iTunes: Single songs, not albums. Shame.

However some of my older AnthologyCDs are scratched and I can't get good MP3s from them. I am waiting for them on iTunes. Soon?
