Otis 'Damon' Harris, who replaced Eddie Kendricks in the Temptations at the age of 21 in 1971, has died at the age of 62, family spokesman Chuck Woodson has confirmed.
Harris sang with the Temptations for four years and took lead vocals on a number of songs, including the Billboard No.1 single, "Papa Was a Rollin' Stone", and went on to win three Grammy awards with the band.
The Damon Harris Cancer Foundation was formed in 2001 to raise awareness of the disease, not long after Harris was diagnosed with prostate cancer.
A Baltimore native, Harris grew up as a fan of the Temptations and sang in a cover band called the Young Tempts, and was a fan of the NFL's Baltimore Ravens, who defeated the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl XLVII by a score of 34-31.
