'Other Woman' manhandles weekend box office; 'Spider-Man 2' opens Friday

‘The Other Woman’ manhandled ‘Captain America’ and all other contenders to top the domestic weekend box office, according to industry figures reported by Box Office Mojo on Monday.

In its opening weekend, female revenge comedy ‘The Other Woman’ starring Cameron Diaz, Leslie Mann and Kate Upton grossed $24.7 million in ticket sales from Friday to Sunday.

Last weekend's top movie, superhero sequel ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier,’ earned $16.2 million in its fourth weekend for a total of $225 million since opening April 4.

Christian drama ‘Heaven Is For Real’ fell one spot to No. 3 in its second weekend, earning $14.3 million for a total of $52.4 million since opening April 16.

Animated comedy adventure sequel ‘Rio 2’ also dipped one spot to No. 4 in its third weekend, earning $13.8 million for a total of $96.3 million since opening April 11.

Action crime drama ‘Brick Mansions’ starring the late Paul Walker debuted at No. 5 with $9.5 million.

The only other major new release, horror film ‘The Quiet Ones,’ opened at No. 7 with $3.8 million.
