Other talk show hosts unleash their "Letterman Scandal" jokes, we got 'em here

It was probably unavoidable the David Letterman was going to be targeted by the other late-night talk show hosts in their monologues for his recent scandal: how could they avoid it, it's all anyone was talking about yesterday?  So it goes.  Here's some of the punchlines about Dave you may have missed yesterday.  Read on, gentle Examiner readers...

First up is Bill Maher, who on HBO's "Real Time With Bill Maher" started by just getting right into it: "Now, let's get tabloid for a minute here...didja hear about Letterman?!"

He then told his audience he was shocked at Dave's behavior, and that he'd:

...never had sex with anyone who works for me.  The guests, sure, but the staff?  Never.

By the way, "Real Time" had a great episode last night, if I may say so.  Awesome show, great host, and even if the guests did leave something to be desired, I thought it was a great episode (though Richard Dawkins, whom I'm not terribly familiar with, proved himself to be hilarious).  But I digress...

On "The Jay Leno Show", Jay didn't spare the feelings of his former rival.  He also had the lamest joke of the three that I caught last night:

If you came here tonight for sex with a talk show host, you've got the wrong studio.

I missed Conan (or, rather, I haven't watched the episode I have DVR'd yet; I just haven't been happy with Conan's output for the past couple weeks, so I'm not so quick to check out the episodes of "The Tonight Show" as I once was), but did manage to see the part on Jimmy Fallon's show where he addressed the situation.  Quote Jimmy Fallon (who, in my opinion, got the best joke of the night; how did that happen?):

There's a new book out called "Why Women Have Sex" that says there are 237 reasons why women have sex. And folks, Letterman knows the top 10.

It was good to see that the other late-night hosts weren't going to shy away from this situation.  Letterman's definitely being tried in the public arena right now, and it'll be interesting to see how this whole "scandal" affects his standing with audiences.  This is the second brouhaha that Dave's had to deal with this year, following that whole Sarah Palin debacle where Letterman ended up apologizing for telling a joke about her daughter getting pregnant by A-Rod.

Despite all that, Letterman's been in the lead spot for his time slot since Leno went off the air (well, after the first few "Tonight Show" episodes with Conan aired, anyway).  He even beat Conan in the 18-25 demographic for the first time last week.  So, I'm wondering: will this screw with his ratings?  What do you think?  Be sure to sound off with a comment below if you think Letterman's gonna do fine through all this...or if his ratings are going to suffer.  For the record, I think his ratings will actually pick up in the coming week (his show on Friday was pre-taped, and we don't yet have the numbers as to how he did, ratings-wise) and will likely return to their normal level once interest in this scandal dies down.

And, hey, check out some of the Comedy Examiner's other recent articles, handily listed in the top right-hand corner of this page.  We have reports on David Letterman's blackmail shenanigans, a poll asking whether or not Dave's a sleazebag, Conan O'Brien being banned from Jersey, a report about "The Jay Leno Show" being boycotted, reviews of last night's episodes of "The Office" and "Parks and Rec",  and another poll about Jon Gosselin's recent appearance on "Larry King Live", proof that The Rock is a "Fairy", and the Comedy Examiner's review of Zombieland (Which was awesome), as well as some other timely stuff.  Click any of those links to go straight to the articles, folks!

I think Dave's going to be just fine.
I was reading other comments about this and came across this one that was funny and to the point. Thought you'd enjoy it.

"I want to clear the air, and say right now, in the strongest possible terms, that David Letterman has NEVER sexually harassed me in any way.
Any sexual relations which we may or may not have had would have been purely consensual.
Women feel his magnetism. Men fear and envy his powerful masculine presence.
He is a strong alpha male, I a healthy and fertile female. Our children would have been magnificent.
    I make no apologies."

    Funny, no?
