Though Anime Vegas and Animegacon already have residency in Las Vegas, a popular east coast anime convention has decided to take its popularity to this desert venue. With the creation of a designated Facebook page earlier on Feb 21, 2013, the Otakon fan convention brought to light a Las Vegas based edition of the popular Baltimore based event, scheduled at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino for the weekend of Jan 3.
Otakon saw its first convention held in 1994, and has since expanded into a nationwide icon for various walks of life. Focusing heavily on East Asian culture, the Otakon convention presents a vast array of mediums, including cinema, manga, music, and anime, and invites attendees from all over the country to partake in an assortment of activities, workshops, and events. Surely, it wouldn’t be a convention if there isn’t a vast array of merchandise to browse and spend money on, and Otakon is more than well aware of this.
From Cosplay contests to panels that have covered such topics as effective means to drawing manga, Otakon provides more than enough entertainment to fill the three day time slot it has reserved at the overtly popular Las Vegas casino. Though not initially a vast topic found within the Otakon fan convention, video gaming has started to creep its way in. Gamers will find themselves immersed in tournaments and exhibits that allow the opportunity to play some of the industry’s most popular games.
As the announcement is still fresh in the social networking atmosphere, details regarding the convention are rather slim. Updates will come regularly to Otakon Vegas’ official website as they are fleshed out.
