OSU's Smart named Cousy finalist

Just a day after being named Big 12 player of the year, Marcus Smart was named one of five finalist for the Bob Cousy Award on Monday, March 12, 2013.

The award is given to the top point guard in the nation, and started with 80 players on the list. It was gradually whittled down to the final five on Monday.

The award is presented each year by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

The five finalists will be presented to the Hall of Fame's selection committee. Members of the committee include media members, head coaches, sports information directors and members of the Hall of Fame. The award will be presented on Championship Monday as part of the Final Four weekend.

The five finalists are:

Marcus Smart - Oklahoma State

Matthew Dellavedova - St. Marys

Michael Carter-Williams - Syracuse

Shane Larkin - Miami

Trey Burke - Michigan

The 13th-ranked Cowboys (23-7 overall, 13-5 Big 12) travel to Kansas City, Mo., this week to compete in the 2013 Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship. OSU will face sixth-seed Baylor on Thursday night at 8:30 pm in the quarterfinals at the Sprint Center.
