Osteoporosis awareness for teen and tween girls

Did you know that the most important time to prevent osteoporosis begins when a girl is 9 years old. Most bone density is established by the time a girl reaches the age of 18. Tthe U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has launched the Best Bones Campaign to educate and influence the habits of teens and parents who might not realize this.

Best Bones Forever urges teen and tween girls to take advantage of this time to adopt healthy lifestyles and build strong bones now in order to prevent osteoporosis later. The Best Bones Forever website was created to give girls all the information they need.

The website is both fun and informative, so girls will enjoy using it. It also urges girls to share this with their BFFs, not only to share the news, but to make it easier to keep up with. There is also a Best Bones Forever Parent's section for parents to learn more about how they can help their daughters build stronger bones.

This campaign is part of a larger one by Health and Human Service to improve girls health. The Girls Health government website was created to help girls, 10-16, learn about health, growing up and the issues they face. For local information, the NYC Deparment of Health and Mental Hygiene runs a NYC Teen Health website.

Start helping your daughters fight off osteoporosis now. Share the Best Bones Forever website with them and read the parent section. Now is the time to start.
