Mike Garafolo of USA Today reported that as of March 20, 2013, veteran defensive end Osi Umenyiora has visited with the Atlanta Falcons.
Umenyoira is currently coming off the second-lowest sack total of his career in 2012, however he recently stated in an email to USA Today that he would win Defensive Player of the Year next season.
Excerpts of the email included, "A goal without a plan is a wish. And I have a plan," as well as "Remember we had this conversation."
It's big talk, but Umenyiora has shown that he's capable over the course of his nine-year career. Highlighted by three seasons of posting double-digit sack totals and a career-high 14.5 sacks in 2005.
So while 2005 was a really long time ago and at 31-years-old he's not going to be revolutionizing any defenses, he's still young enough to be hungry for individual success and old enough to bring experience to the defensive line.
If nothing else, this can at least reassure Falcons' fans that the team is headed in the right direction.
