Director Martin Scorsese's ode to the history of French cinema, "Hugo," went into the ceremony with a leading 11 Oscar nominations and took home five statuettes including Best Cinematography and Best Art Direction.
Other big winners at Sunday night's ceremonies included Meryl Streep, who took home her long-awaited third Oscar for "The Iron Lady," Christopher Plummer for Best Supporting Actor for "Beginners," and Octavia Spencer for Best Supporting Actress for "The Help."
Plummer, 82, easily gave one of the best speeches of the night, and wasn't afraid to poke fun at his age.
"I have a confession to make, when I first emerged from my mother’s womb, I was already rehearsing my Academy thank you speech," Plummer said. "But it was so long ago, mercifully for you, I’ve forgotten it."
