At the 86th Annual Academy Awards on Sunday night you couldn't hear a pin drop when the In Memoriam tribute came on at the Dolby Theater in downtown Hollywood. It was a moment of honor for those men and women in the business who passed on during the past year. There are so many people who Hollywood has lost this year. It was amazing to see Bette Midler perform Wind Beneath My Wings as it was such a moving performance.
So who was seen during the segment? Some of the big artists included James Gandolfini, Karen Black, Tom Laughlin, Jim Kelly, Paul Walker, Charles L. Campbell, Deanna Durbin, Frederic Back, Elmore Leonard, Annette Funicello, Peter O’Toole, Sid Caesar, Roger Ebert, Shirley Temple Black, Joan Fontaine, Mickey Moore, Stefan Kudelski, Harold Ramis, Eleanor Parker, Ray Dolby and Philip Seymour Hoffman. The Academy Awards also highlighted more people who have passed on with a special feature on their website.
The pain of this moment was real as many of the stars knew those friends and colleagues that once had a light so bright, but it was extinguished forever more. Sharing the moment and offering an instant to reflect, it was a bittersweet moment for all to share.
