Oscars: Could it now be Gravity that wins? Who knows

Top news coming in to a warm San Francisco today is about the upcoming Oscars. Newser.com says that the movie Gravity seems to be taking the lead when it comes to prospective Oscar winners.

At the Directors Guild of America, last night, it was Alfonso Cuatron and the movie Gravity that got top honors.

Katie Adler, a native San Franciscan, says "There are some really great movies out and it will be a tight race. Very exciting."

It is now looking like it will be a "tight three-way race to the Oscars," reports Newser.com.

"The award all but guarantees Cuaron the Best Director Oscar (though don't ask Ben Affleck about that particular almost-guarantee), and gives Gravity another boost over American Hustle and the faltering 12 Years a Slave," reports the AP.

Up until now it was the latter two films that had been considered the contenders most likely to win at the Academy Awards on March 2 2014.

As it stands at the moment, however, as Scott Bowles of the USA Today puts it, "Now the coin has three sides."
